Why do you do Yoga?!

Peter - 23 yrs "In August I was faced with one of (if not) the worst mental experience/challenge of my life... I could either go into a downward spiral or start finding new challenges and learning to love myself, as much as I love others, if not more. Almost by some sort of miracle, Nin Yoga opened up a month later just 5 minutes down the road, as I was searching for ways to heal myself. I took it as an omen and went for it; and I'm honestly so glad that I did. Sure, it's physically rewarding, but for me... it's given me a safe-house... a haven... an escape from my constant overthinking. I owe so much to Annika and everyone involved in Nin Yoga (inc. Aaron, Paige and Claire)."

Cheryl - 59 yrs "Just newly retired I wanted to keep active and I always wanted to give yoga a go so it was perfect when Annika started her classes 1 day a week , I went and loved it. Now that she has opened up her beautiful studio, I go 5 days a week. I’m using muscles that I didn’t think I could use at my age and it’s so relaxing, so thank you Annika you are a positive and beautiful lady and my life is so much better with yoga in it..."

Shirley - 29 "Approached life with alot of aggression and yoga calms me down. It also helps me discover opportunities within myself and allow me to explore my limitations which flows through other aspects of my life like the gym and work."

Alaina - 20 yrs "Yoga ultimately brings me back in tune with myself; it grounds me. Yoga helps me become so much more aware of my own condition on any given day; it enables me to gauge how I am truly feeling and move in a way that suits me. Yoga, although a physical practice, cultivates peace and stillness in my mind and soothes my soul. Coming from someone who was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder and lived with a mind that literally NEVER stopped, I can happily say that yoga helps in reversing these ill effects and brings me toward my true self. Annika, your classes are pure joy and bliss! I highly recommend the Yin Yoga space to anyone wanting to free themselves from a noisy mind, move in a way that suits their individual body and release their inner child. 💗💗💗"

Angelo - 28 yrs "I do Yoga for the physical stability, strength & flexibility (I have the worst hammies). I play Dodgeball 2-3 times a week and being such a fast paced sport where your entire body is constantly being challenged, yoga helps me to wind down. Above all, traveling & being on a new adventure in some city around the world, yoga helps me to be self aware, and practice being kind to myself and others. It challenges me, motivates me, and at the same time keeps me grounded. It’s all about finding that right balance! So thankful to Annika for accepting me into her YogaFam, I’m so happy to have found an amazing instructor and studio so close to home. "

Linda - 55 yrs "I originally did yoga about 25 years ago and I’ve always wanted to get back to it, so I was really excited when your studio in St Marys opened. I always feel calm and energised when I leave and I’m amazed at what this 55 year old body can actually do! I love how yoga is individual and not competitive like the gym. 😘😘"

Lisa - 41 yrs " I do yoga for the mind body spirit balance. After going through some traumatic experiences my mental health started to deteriorate. I stumbled across the amazing spirit, that is Annika, at exactly the right time. Since starting yoga with Annika my life, mental and physical health has greatly improved. My mind and body are stronger and my spirit is singing again. That's the power of yoga and the power of beautiful Annika. Xx😁🙏🏼    NAMASTE"

Tayla - 24 yrs    " I wanted to be more active and get to know my body and relax my mind. As soon as I tried yoga I fell in love with it and I knew this is exactly what I needed in my life. I’m living on my own, working full time and soon to be studying so my brain is constantly thinking, so being able to stop my mind chatting away, even if it’s just for a few seconds is such a relieving feeling. The most rewarding thing for me though is challenging my body into positions that I’d never thought possible. I also wanted my Mum to try it as well, she is retired now and I thought it would be good to have something positive in her life and to have some mother daughter bonding. Now she’s goes more than me! Proud to be a yogi and I’m so glad to have met Annika, you are a breath of fresh air into my world so thanks for the positivity and standing on me when I’m not pushing myself far enough 😅🌻🍃"

Adam - 31 yrs "I began to do Yoga as my journey to wake up and unplug from the Matrix aka Illusion began with the unveiling of the Vedic path. In order to further understand myself, understand who "I" am and to really understand that "I" am my own limitation is why I began the physical prostration and breathing aspects of Yoga. Yoga is a means to understand the Supreme Soul. One who is steadily fixed in the Supreme Soul with determination, concentrating ones mind, life and sensory activities on the Supreme, engages in the highest, holiest of consciousness. *Bhagavad Gita* It is often said that we don't find yoga, but yoga finds us.  Yoga by definition is not excersise, it means union or connection. There are many forms of yoga, from a life living aspect, devotional aspect, sacrificial aspects etc all leading to a unified connection with ourselves to the universal consciousness. So Yoga for me is a part of my life, a part of my journey a part of who I am, who I must be and where I must go.   Thank you Annika for allowing me to share a brief snapshot with you 🙏🙏"

Jess "Mole" - 28 yrs "Let me tell you about my yoga journey... Reading on a doctors report that I was technically ‘morbidly obese’ was not how I wanted to live my life. I joined a gym back in 2015 and was lucky enough to meet my PT (Renee Williams) who changed my life completely. As I, like many other people, struggle with anxiety I asked Renee what would be able to assist me with this even further as the exercise itself was already making things so much better for me. She suggested that I try one of Claire’s yoga classes that she was running at that gym at the time. Knowing that I had nothing to lose I gave it a go and because of Claire’s amazing nature, I became instantly hooked. It was amazing to be able to start to switch off for the hour (I’m used to my brain ticking 24/7), become less anxious and push my body into poses that I would have never thought possible. Once she left that gym I didn’t really go to those classes anymore.  I then found out that Annika was starting to teach yoga as well. I was so excited to and give her classes a go and get back into it. Annika brings nothing but a warm and welcoming energy to the room and makes you feel like you can do anything!  Having both Annika and Claire in the same space is more than amazing - so I made sure I was quick to sign up and become a member!!  Not only does yoga assist with my mental health but it helps so much with my post gym training. On a good week I will do a minimum of 6 classes, PT and #renzbootcamp  sessions with Renee and due to a lack of stretching I usually end up injuring myself stupidly outside of the gym.  Attending Yoga regularly through my membership helps me to stretch out the weeks worth of work and limit my chances of becoming injured! It’s also taught me that even whilst being injured there will always be other body parts that we can work on in the meantime whilst strengthening the injured ones - so really there’s never an excuse not to do it and the girls will always assist when needed ♡"

Dannielle - 28 yrs "The biggest motivator for me to do yoga is slowing down my mind. Like many, I find it hard to turn the volume down but since beginning Yoga I have started to balance out my anxiety and general stress. It's also super good for stretching out my body and working areas I haven't been able to reach through other forms or exercise. Plus, I secretly just like being told to lay still and listen to the vibrations of the singing bowl!"

Naomi - 29 yrs "I started doing yoga as a means to stretch and build strength in flexibility to compliment my circus training and to combat the muscles I'll inevitably build doing crossfit. Now however I'm finding it also to be a way to relax and destress after a long day at work, clear the mind from emotional clutter and to socialise with a great community."

Natalie - 29 yrs "I first started to help relieve my back pain and sore muscles after training. It taught me to slow down, to accept and be patient with my body. Also in a profession where I take care of so many people, it’s something that makes me slow down, be present and take care of myself.  😊💕"
