decisions

Ten years ago I was in Goa doing my first yoga teacher training, telling a philosophy teacher that one day I hoped to bring my future community back to India.

At the time, there was no studio and no clear plan — just a dream.

Now, a decade later, that dream is becoming real as our Nin Yoga community prepares to travel back to North Goa together. Sometimes the seeds we plant take years to bloom.

sh*tty battles

Jacki has been part of the Nin Yoga family since the very beginning — the quiet creative force behind so much of what you see around the studio. Now she’s stepping into the spotlight for an incredible cause, participating in Stars of Penrith to help raise $5,000 for Cancer Council. Cancer touches so many lives, and Jacki is turning her passion for community and the arts into meaningful support for those navigating it. If you’re able, we’d love for you to join us in cheering her on and helping her reach her fundraising goal.

what is there left to know?

I used to think that by now I would know better — know where my keys are, know that shortcuts aren’t really shortcuts, know not to bump into the same chair.

But each day, I’m reminded that there is still so much to learn — not just about the world, but about myself.

What if we approached ourselves with a beginner’s mindset? Offered grace for forgotten keys, wrong turns, bruised shins, and anxious thoughts?

Every morning we wake up slightly different than the person who went to sleep.

Today, just begin again.

evidence that something matters

Last week, I cried — over a book, my daughter’s surgery, the weight of running a business, and the beauty of our yoga teacher training graduation. And I noticed how often we apologise for tears. But emotion isn’t weakness. It’s evidence that something matters. This is a reflection on motherhood, leadership, community, and why we don’t need to shrink our feelings to make others comfortable.

are we there yet?

We keep waiting for the moment when everything is done — when work settles, parenting eases, and life finally feels calm. But what if there is no finish line? After a month travelling in a van with two kids, I realised rest isn’t a reward waiting at the end. It’s something we take in small pieces along the way.

niggling new years thoughts

A reflective look at why New Year’s resolutions so often fall away—and how a gentler, Ayurvedic approach to habit-building can help us create real, lasting change. This piece explores the power of meeting yourself where you are, letting go of perfection, and trusting that small, consistent actions truly add up.

next months course

Our 50 Hour Yin Yoga & Meditation Teacher Training is beginning soon, and we couldn’t be more excited to invite you into this deeply nourishing journey. Whether you’re a yoga teacher, facilitator, healer, or simply someone who feels called to explore Yin and meditation on a deeper level, this training is designed to support both personal transformation and professional growth.

Led by the incredibly passionate and experienced teachers Karen Gruber and Suzie Q (with Annika also teaching alongside them), this training weaves together ancient wisdom, modern understanding, and years of lived experience. You’ll dive into the history and philosophy of Yin Yoga and meditation, Taoist principles, meridian theory, mindfulness, anatomy, and the art of thoughtful class planning — all while learning how to share these practices confidently with others if you choose.

This is more than a training; it’s an invitation to slow down, peel back layers, and reconnect with what truly makes your heart sing.

then there is the heat

Sometimes the smallest pauses land the deepest. A slow breath, a gentle yoga class after days on the road, or a moment of putting the phone down can feel like a soft exhale after a long inhale. In the heat, the movement, and the noise of everyday life, these moments become quiet invitations to slow down, breathe, and remember what’s essential — without needing to fix a thing.

being seen is hard

Creating the design for our summer merch was pure joy — until it came time for people to actually see it. Suddenly, I felt exposed and uncomfortable. That feeling became a reminder of a core yoga teaching: the practice of sitting with discomfort. Yoga isn’t just what happens on the mat, but how we meet ourselves off it, too.

an update for our St Marys studio

After eight years of growing our Nin Yoga community, I’ve made one of the hardest decisions since opening our first studio in St Marys — we’ll be consolidating everything into Penrith at the end of this month. This isn’t goodbye, it’s a regrouping. A way to protect jobs, strengthen our teachers, stabilise financially, and move forward from a place of clarity, strength, and community.

my new boots

Yoga is often seen through a filter of perfect poses and ultra-flexible bodies, but real yoga looks different for everyone. In a recent Beginner’s class, I was reminded just how accessible this practice truly is—whether you’re sitting in a chair, working around an injury, or simply learning to breathe with intention. Yoga isn’t about forcing your body into shapes. It’s about honouring where you are, moving with awareness, and remembering that if you can breathe, you can do yoga.

need something to look forward to?

A few weeks ago, we had an idea… to host a retreat. So we followed the pull — found the space, booked it, gathered the facilitators, and created the experience within days. No overthinking, just a deep knowing that this was something we needed to do. And now, it’s officially happening: the Nin Yoga Winter Retreat, July 2026 at Yanada Retreat on Darkinjung Country. Hosted by Jennifer Lorena, Annika Saigi, Karen Gruber, and beloved elders Uncle Colin and Aunty Lully, this retreat is designed to help you slow down, reconnect, and remember who you are beneath the noise. With yoga, nourishing meals, fire circles, art, rest, and community, it’s a soul-filling weekend away!

my brain is overstimulated

I’m tired, overstimulated, and craving a moment to myself. So I sink into the couch, scroll for “just a minute,” and suddenly an hour is gone—along with the nourishing plans I had for the evening. We’ve all been there.
A phrase from my teacher, Kaya Mindlin, has been echoing in my mind: “What you repeat, you become established in.”
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the habits I repeat every day—some that support me, others that quietly drain me. Some seem tiny, yet over time they shape who I am and who I’m becoming.
