new hats, haircuts and tattooz
The older I get, the more I realise: the main thing I do every day is make decisions.
Decisions about which classes to schedule.
Decisions about who to employ next.
Decisions about whether or not to launch a new training, collaborate on an event, change a membership option, order T2 Lemongrass and Ginger tea for $37 a bag or go to Aldi and get a box for $1.69 (not that bad I might add, ive had three cups already and its 10 am) … you get it
It’s constant. Decision fatigue is real (anyone get home after work and get asked what they want for dinner and answer with "food"?)
But I remind myself daily: most decisions are experiments. And experiments are where the magic happens.
I recently read something from James Clear (the author of Atomic Habits) that resonated. He talks about decisions as falling into three categories:
Hats – Try one on. Don’t like it? Put it back. No big deal.
Haircuts – It might not be perfect. You might cringe for a bit. But it’ll grow out and you’ll move on.
Tattoos – This one’s permanent. Think it through.
That stuck with me.
Because here’s the thang — I didn’t plan to run these studios. I didn’t set out to build a teacher training academy.
Back in my 20s, I was studying anthropology and planning to teach English as a second language while exploring the world. I was working in management and dreaming about cashing in on my long-service leave and then going overseas and accidentally never coming back
But somewhere along the way… I tried on a “hat.”
I said yes to something that felt good, real, and different.
I fell into this world of teaching yoga, opening a studio, running trainings — and I fell in love
And now, here we are. 8 years later. Two studios. Hundreds of beautiful humans. Countless decisions — many of them hats, some haircuts, a few tattoos.
At Nin Yoga, we know this value of experimentation, of growth, of choosing again and again and again andbeing totes ok with failing.
We live our values every day in how we make decisions — big and small:
Ahimsa – We lead with compassion. No decision is worth making if it sacrifices care for our community.
Svadhyaya – We’re always learning. That means trying new things, messing up, learning from it, and doing it better next time.
Tapas – We show up. Even when it's hard. Especially when it's hard.
Satya – We keep it real. No smoke and mirrors, just a lot of honesty, goofiness, and real human connection.
Santosha – We stay humble and grateful. Every lesson, every mistake, every haircut that didn’t work out — it’s all part of the ride.
So, maybe today’s your day to try on a hat.
Or perhaps you're considering a potential tattoo.
Either way, we’re here for it. We’re here for ya.
You do you, boo.
