sharing my experience
While I was away on holiday, living my best life, a message popped up from a friend I met many years ago in what feels like a whole different life.
They asked if I wanted to run the City2Surf to raise money for the Black Dog Institute.
And because I was in full holiday mode, feeling spontaneous, I said yes!
Fast forward to this Sunday and it’s race day... what have I gotten myself into?
Jokes aside, while I may question the decision to run (cough, I mean run/walk), I have zero regrets about why I’m doing it- to raise funds and awareness for mental health.
Some of you may know that I live with mental illness. It’s not something I talk about often here, but I am always open to sharing my experience to help reduce stigma. The friend I am running with is someone I met during one of my darkest times.
We supported each other, and it means the world to run this with her.
I’ve been fortunate to have had access to incredible support and services over the years. But I know that not everyone is so lucky.
The Black Dog Institute is undertaking essential work in collaboration with governments, schools, workplaces, and communities to create real, meaningful change. They’re helping ensure mental health support reaches those who need it, when and where it matters most.
If you would like to support this cause, you can do so by clicking on this link. Any amount helps, no matter it's size, it is the heart behind it that matters most.
Wish me luck!
If you or someone you know is seeking support, numerous resources are available. LifeLine and BeyondBlue are two services I have used myself in crisis.
Or please reach out, and I am happy to chat!
