we need towels and blankets

If you've been reading these emails the past few weeks, you'll know we've been working behind the scenes towards turning Nin Yoga into a not-for-profit.

Well... we be here now babes!

Nin Yoga Community Incorporated is officially incorporated, our Management Committee is in place, and wehave now moved all money from our memberships, class passes, studio hire and events into the not-for-profit bank account.

After nine years of Nin Yoga, this feels like a pretty big shift. But also a very natural one.

Somewhere along the way, Nin stopped feeling like something that was just mine. It became a place people practise, teach, work, make friends, read books, dance, make art, drink tea and hang around long after class has finished.

So we're building a structure that actually reflects that.

So, what does it mean for you?

Honestly, your day-to-day experience at Nin won't suddenly change.

We'll still have our regular yoga, reformer and dance classes. We'll still run workshops, book clubs, art events and all the other slightly random things that have found a home here.

You'll start seeing Nin Yoga Community Incorporated on more of our official communications and payments, and there may be a few little administrative changes as we move everything across.

The bigger changes will happen over time.

Any surplus made by the not-for-profit stays within the organisation and can be reinvested into the studio, our teachers, equipment, events, community programs and making what we offer more accessible.

We also want to do more beyond our regular timetable, including community events and eventually more outreach with schools, older people and other community organisations.

And we really want you to be part of it.

One of the things I'm most excited about is finding more ways for our community to actually participate in Nin Yoga, rather than simply being customers of it.

We'll be launching more ways to get involved and contribute soon.

One option is already available: our Energy Exchange membership.

If you'd like to contribute one hour a week helping around Nin Yoga, you can access your membership for half price. We've now added the Energy Exchange option to our website for anyone interested in getting involved.

Nine years ago, I opened a yoga studio.

What we've ended up with feels much more like a community space.

Now we're giving it the structure to become one too.

More soon, dearests,

Annika (and oatmeal) xx

P.S. We are collecting old towels and blankets for the Animal Welfare League. If you have any, please drop them off at the studio, and a member of our community will get them to the fur babies.
