from the heart

I've always heard people say that yoga is so much more than physical exercise, but it wasn't until I had the chance to study the practice in greater depth that I truly understood what that meant (shout out to Kaya Academy for the insight ).

For me, one of the most powerful teachings was the idea of Karma Yoga: the yoga of selfless action. Karma Yoga teaches us that spiritual growth isn't just found on our mats; it lies in our actions. It's about offering our energy and our efforts for the benefit of others, without expectation of anything in return.

At the heart of Karma Yoga is the idea of Seva, which in Sanskrit means "selfless service".  Seva is the act of giving freely from the heart, recognising the ways we are deeply interconnected with all living beings. Through Seva, we move beyond our individual concerns and actively contribute to the wellbeing of our community.

This is something that I truly adore about Nin Yogis—the ways we come together and get behind a cause through the practice of Seva.

This month, we're participating in a Share the Dignity drive, collecting essential period supplies to support women and girls in the Penrith area experiencing homelessness, domestic violence or financial hardship.

We're collecting pads, tampons, period undies, reusable pads, menstrual cups, and incontinence items—everything is welcome as long as it's in its original packaging.

All donations will be given to the Penrith Women's Health Centre, a not-for-profit charity that provides essential health, wellbeing, and domestic violence support services.

We're collecting donations at both of our studios throughout August. Look for the pink box in the St Marys studio reception, or the altar upstairs in the Penrith studio. All donations will directly support women in our community.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Thank you for being part of a community that consistently shows up, both on and off the mat.

With love,

Samantha

P.S. If you want to learn the ways in which yoga is soooo much more than an asana practice, we've got a whole teacher training academy for just that .
